How did I get to be a writer? After studying politics and history in college, I managed to score a dream job as a political speechwriter and researcher. That led to stints as a journalist and editor.
Writing then took a back seat as my worries about the state of our environment took hold. For many years I served non-profit organizations in New York, San Francisco, and New Zealand, focused mostly on climate change and sustainable development. From the United Nations to our national parks, I've tried to help make our world a better, healthier place to live.
On a lighter note, I also love music and occasionally even perform. I was in bands in New Zealand when I was younger and in recent years was lucky enough to be in an 80s covers band in California.
My passion for writing and storytelling never went away, though, and now I get to do that for a living. Naturally, I draw on my love of nature and music. I'm also lucky enough to have traveled a lot and lived in various places. I'm originally from Yorkshire in the north of England, growing up on the edge of the moors where the Bronte sisters penned their masterpieces. Since then, I've been blessed to live in stunning New Zealand, fast-paced New York City, and sunny California. Recently I returned to Europe and now live with my family in Dublin, Ireland. My experiences of these fascinating places help fuel my creative juices when I write.
